Oven Baked Pasta With Minced Beef

Let me tell you; this recipe is suitable for people with limited time to cook. Also, it is very very easy to make and delicious with budget friendly ingredients.

This recipe can also be made vegan by substituting minced beef with green lentils, and milk and butter with vegan substitutes.

Ingredients:

  • Pasta of your choice – I used penne
  • A medium-sized onion – finely chopped
  • 250 grams minced beef
  • 5-6 mushrooms – chopped
  • Fresh parsley – finely chopped
  • Cumin
  • Pepper
  • Salt

For the white sauce:

  • Half a block of butter – around 200-250 grams
  • 1 cup of flour – I used normal white flour
  • Milk of your choice – around 600 ml (or add until the butter flour mixture form a liquid)
  • Pepper
  • Salt
  • One block of halloumi – grated

Equipment:

Ceramic oven tray. The one I use can be found here.

The green pan I use is nonstick and recycled, which can be found here.

Non-slip chopping board can be found here.

I used a handy food processor to finely chop the onion and parsley, and also to save time. Here is the link for the one I use – Braun MultiQuick Hand Blender, Mixer and Food Processor.

Method:

Start by sautéing onions, then add the beef mince and mushrooms. Once they are cooked, add salt, pepper and chopped parsley.

Start cooking the pasta.

While pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a separate pan. Once the butter is melted, add the flour. As the flour is fried – you’ll understand from the fried smell, slowly add milk. First add a small amount and whisk. Then, add more, then more until the sauce is liquified.

Once the sauce is liquid enough, I used a hand blender and blended it to get rid of the flour lumps and make it smoother.

Add some salt and pepper to the sauce. Then, once it thickens, add grated halloumi.

When everything is ready, it is time to assemble all!

Start by a layer of pasta (half of the cooked pasta), then add half of the minced beef. Then, add the rest of the pasta as the third layer, followed by the rest of the minced beef.

Finally, pour the white sauce on top of it.

Now, it is time to bake for 15 mins at 180°C.

Once the baked pasta is cooled a bit, it is ready to serve.

Enjoy!
